Thursday, May 17, the management of Rootswatch Magazine held the 16th edition of the Rootswatch National Awards at the National Merit Award Auditorium, Merit House, Maitama, Abuja. 
                                                                         .                                     
The event attracted the creme' dela' creme' of Nigeria's political class at the grassroots level.                                                         .                                                           
LG chairmen from across the length and breadth of the country that have made impacts in office were honoured with different categories of awards.                                                      .                                                         
The LG chairmen honoured were: Hon. Wisdom Fafi - Kolokuma/Opukuma LGA (Bayelsa); Hon.  Israel Adaisi - Ini LGA (Akwa Ibom); Ganiyi Omaluka - Owo LGA (Ondo); Mohammed Jaji - Birnin Gwadi LGA (Jigawa); Jerry Emeka Asuanya - Onitsha South LGA (Anambra); Rashadu Idowu - Oyo LGA (Oyo); Amatu Tonye - Ekeremoh LGA (Bayelsa); Elijah Owolabi - Apapa LGA ( Lagos); Jamiu Yakubu Ajayi - Iju-Alato-Ilogo LGA (Ogun); George Alli - Oturkpo LGA (Benue); Salish Garuba Kusayo - Kiri Kasama LGA (Jigawa); Hon. Osita - Osisioma LGA (Abia); chairmen of Oyo SW LGA, Opobo LGA (Rivers) and Taura LGA (Jigawa) amongst others.                                                            .                                       
Highpoints of the prestigious gathering were the presentation of awards as well as prizes - generators and cars to the honorees.

GOs Protest Fraudulent Election Results in Bayelsa

Posted By Tony Okechukwu Members of various non-governmental organisations and civil society groups in Bayelsa State, on Wednesday, staged a peaceful protest over the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in some parts of the state. Comrade Toitoi Newton of the Grassroots For Development, who led the protest to the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Yenagoa, told journalists that the CSOs demand a cancellation of the purported results from Constituency 4 in Southern Ijaw council and Nembe-Bassambiri in Nembe council where election materials were carted away. According to Comrade Newton, elections did not hold in the seven wards of Nembe-Bassambiri due to the violence orchestrated by political thugs aided by security personnel deployed in the community.
