Osun 2018: Tinubu, Buhari and the Arrogance of non-Performance

By Simeon Nwakaudu

As all Nigerians work towards sacking the worst Federal Government in the history of the country, one is saddened by the arrogance of non-performance blatantly displayed by Failed President Muhammadu Buhari and his side-kick, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Tinubu was instrumental to the imposition of Aregbesola as the Governor of Osun State through propaganda, under-the-table deals and outright blackmail. For eight years, Aregbesola  destroyed Osun State and made  it Nigeria's laughing stock.  The State owed more than 30months salaries and had no tangible developmental projects.
When the 2018 elections approached, rather  than apologise to the people of Osun  State, Tinubu showed up, worked  with  Aregbesola to impose an unpopular candidate on the people.
The people complained.  They questioned the morality of a failure imposing his aide on them. They cried. But Tinubu riding on his horse of arrogance , rubbed insult on Osun's injury by talking about his wealth and that of the Osun APC Governorship Candidate to the chargrin of the suffering people of the state.
Ahead of the inconclusive Osun Governorship Election of September 22, 2018, the Failed APC Federal Government displayed an unparalleled level of arrogance and misapplication of governmental influence.
The Presidency through the Federal Ministry of Finance released  well over N30billion to the outgoing APC Government in that state. These funds were used to pay for votes, pay few months salaries and mobilise the rigging machine to subvert the will of Osun people.
The action of the APC Federal Government confirmed the rumours making the round that Aregbesola sacrificed the economic stability of his state by using  his state's resources to fund APC National Campaign. Rivers and Lagos States escaped the economic disaster even though Amaechi and Fashola committed greater funds to financing the APC National Campaign, because of the strength of her economies.
Therefore, Buhari stood with Aregbesola, because they shared something in common , non-performance.  After releasing so much funds to Osun to run the governorship election, Buhari went a step further to direct the Police to act unconstitutionally regarding the state.
IGP Idris declared the PDP Governorship Candidate, Ademola Adeleke wanted. They planned to detain him until after the election. When Nigerians revolted, Buhari restrained his attack dog .
The APC had nothing to campaign with in Osun State, except to buy votes, intimidate voters and deploy equally non-performing governors to rig the process.
The people of Osun State stood their ground on election day and overwhelmingly voted their choice, Senator Ademola Adeleke.  They resisted all ploys to brazenly change figures.
Even at that, INEC, APC and Police enterred the Osogbo kitchen to cook results when it became clear that Osun people had decided. It was an  embarrassment of international proportion that results from Osogbo the state capital were the last to be turned in.
Like Engr Nat Apir noted, when Osogbo  result was even released, INEC claimed that a presiding officer ran away with result sheets in a polling station . This, they did to set up the scenario for rigging. In their desperation for flimsy excuses, they forgot the heavy presence of security details in Osogbo.
To me, the cancellation of  3,498 votes in the affected polling units were contrived  to give the APC a soft landing and another horrible opportunity to manipulate  the electoral outcome.
As far as I am concerned, the people of Osun State are victorious.  Nigerians are victorious.  They have opened the way to the sacking of the worst President in the history of Nigeria.
Osun People have made it abundantly clear that Nigerians will no longer tolerate the excesses of arrogant crooks who deride performance and invoke the power of incumbency to steal the right of the people to elect their leaders.
By standing up for democracy, Osun people have educated the rest of us on the need to stand up to end the evil wind of the APC. They have proved that with determination, Nigerians can put an end  to the arrogance of non-performance.
If not for Federal Might (Security Forces) and stolen resources (NNPC Bullion Vans), would Buhari be seeking a second term? Certainly no.
For close to 40 months, Buhari has not initiated any major project or policy. He has not executed any key project in any part of the country including Katsina State. With so much finances at his disposal, Buhari has gone ahead to borrow with reckless abandon, mortgaging the future country.
The failed Outgoing President of Nigeria sings the song of his politically selective fight against corruption  with the hypocritical confidence of a prostitute insulting a teenager for unwanted pregnancy.
INEC has fixed September 27, 2018 for the Supplementary Election in the affected polling units.  There is so much work for the people to secure their victory.
This time, the rich Tinubu, APC Governors, Buhari and the NNPC  would deploy several billions to buy 3,498 votes. They would deploy security agencies and deadly thugs to snatch electoral materials and subvert the process . But this is the time for Osun people to conclude their statement by writing the last paragraph.
These political criminals who hug power just to rob the people of the benefits of good governance must be permanently retired. They have no place in a democracy.
All Nigerians should begin to brace up for the post-Buhari era. The country cannot afford another four years of a government that promotes  stagnation, destruction of democratic process . This failed APC Federal Government will not let go without a fight, but the people must insist on sacking Buhari to start the process of recovery.  - Simeon Nwakaudu is the SA on Electronic Media to Gov.
