Bayelsa State Governor, Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson has commended women of the state for their show of solidarity, steadfastness, encouragement and prayers for his administration, since he assumed office in 2012.

Governor Dickson stated this when he gave audience to two women groups, the Restoration Women and the Friday Konyefa Foundation Women, who had come to pay him a condolence visit at his Toru-Orua country home in Sagbama local government Area of the state.

Describing the women as critical stakeholders and partners in the development of the state, the governor thanked them for taking out time to  condole him and his family over the death of his mother and urged them to pray for the repose of her soul and the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

He enjoined the women to imbibe the habit of self check, regular medical checkup as well as screening for cancer at the Bayelsa Diagnostic Centre, adding that, his foundation would establish a cancer centre, which would be funded by people of goodwill.

His words: "I want to thank you all for your support, prayers and for being part of our journey all this years.

Today you are here on account of the loss of our mother, I want to thank you for coming to mourn with us, for coming to condole us and above all pray with us. We are very grateful.

I have been receiving condolence visit for about tree weeks now and there is no delegation that has come with so much love and concern.

What is important is that you have come with love. On behalf of my family, I want to thank you for your show of love and solidarity. Continue to remember us in your prayers, pray for the eternal repose of her soul and for the fortitude to bear this loss".

Earlier, the spokesperson of the groups, Mrs. Rebecca Suoware, who is the Chairperson of Bayelsa State Scholarship Board commended Governor Dickson for his women-friendly policies and appointment of the women folk into positions of trust.

Mrs. Suoware further appreciated the governor for prioritizing the education of the Bayelsa and Ijaw children, through scholarships within and outside the country.

She condoled with him on the death of his mother and assured him that, the women of the state would support and participate fully in the burial activities.

Also, the leader of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, His Holiness  Leader Olumba Olumba Obu, who was represented by the Bayelsa State Administrator, Ambassador Natus Zibakeme led a delegation of some of its members to commiserate with Governor Dickson.
