ZAMFARA STATE GOVERNOR VISITS THE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF, SOLICITS FOR MORE SUPPORT

Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, Thursday, visited the Chief of Army Staff, Nigerian Army, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai at the Nigeria Army Headquarters, Abuja to solicit for continued support and cooperation from the Army for the success of his administration's peace process initiative.
The Governor was received by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai and some army Principal Officers.
Governor Matawalle said he was at the Army Headquarters in order to show his appreciation and that of his government to the Army Chief regarding the roles and contributions of the Nigerian Army in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities in Zamfara State.
The Governor added that the State has gained a lot through the support and cooperation of the Army leading to achievements being recorded and giving him a road map in disseminating the security challenges.
Matawalle further said that he is optimistic that with the support he is getting from all the security agencies and God's guidance, through the peace process a lot of success has been recorded so far.
Adding that within the short period and the intelligence at his disposal, the activities of armed bandits has reduced by 90 percent.
The Governor equally described the presence of the Army in the State as encouraging, and requested for the deployment of more, while he promised to provide all the needed logistics to them.
He also appreciated the good relationship existing between the State Government and the Nigerian Army and called for more synergy and understanding for the success of the peace process in the State which can be replicated in the neighbouring States.
Gov. Matawalle, described the Peace Reconciliation and Dialogue as the best option of ending any security challenges nationally and internationally. He noted that what the people of the State need most is to see to the conclusive end of criminality within and outside the State.
While responding, the Chief of Army Staff, commended the Governor for taking a political direction in tackling the security situation in the State.
Buratai added that since the coming of Governor Matawalle, he has observed an excellent leadership being exhibited which has helped in reducing the activities of armed banditry by 90 percent, noting the fact as quite commendable.
He also assured the Governor of the continued support of the Nigerian Army to the peace process initiated by the Zamfara State Government to succeed.
The Army Chief pointed out that the military will provide expert advice in the peace process in the three fundamental areas of Comprehensiveness, Disarmaments and Deradicalization.
The Governor was accompanied by the former Minister of Finance and Honorary Advisor, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda Gusau, Senator Mohammed Gusau, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Executive Governor, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe and the Governor's Principal Private Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Jaafar Maradun.
