The immediate past Chief of Protocol of the Atiku-Obi Presidential Campaign and incumbent DG of the PDP Governors Forum has congratulated indigenes of Edo State who were Thursday successfully inaugurated into positions of Chairmen/Deputy Chairmen of the various House of Representatives Committees at the 9th National Assembly.
In a statement issued by him on Friday in Abuja, Onaiwu specifically acknowledged Hon. Ihama Ogbeide (PDP) who emerged as the Chairman, Committee on Culture/Tourism; as well as Julius Ihovbere (APC) – (Chairman, Committee on Basic Education); Johnson Oghuma (APC) – (Chairman, Committee on Environment); Dennis Idahosa (APC) – (Chairman, Committee on Legislative Compliance) and Patrick Aisoweren (APC) – (Dep. Chairman, Committee on Populations.
While tasking the newly-sworn in committee leaders to work assiduously in ensuring that democratic practice is deepened for the benefit of Nigerians, Onaiwu said: “I am very confident that the National Assembly in particular and the country in general will benefit immensely from your wealth of experience as you assume duties in your new capacities.
The statement further stated: “You are first of all indigenes of Edo State. And Edo people will always stand on the side of decency and utmost respect for the institution of the National Assembly and the values we hold as a people,”
He urged them to “Always remember that Edo’s future lies not only in our hands but also in the hands of future generations who are, in fact, the major stakeholders in every issue that NASS is dealing with. It is therefore important that you must build and enhance capacities of the future generations with the best of your abilities.
“I plead with you to place the welfare, wishes and aspirations of the people above every other consideration; by credibly contributing to a strong and independent legislature that upholds the tenets of democracy and the dictates of Nigeria’s Constitution” he added.
Onaiwu equally prayed God Almighty to guide and grant them a reign of wisdom, good health and the focus to excel in this selfless service to their fatherland.
