GOMBE GOVERNMENT PEGS FERTILISER PRICE AT N5,000

By Tony Okechukwu

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Saturday, said it had begun the sale of 68,400 bags of fertiliser at a subsidised rate of N5, 000 per bag for the wet season to boost food security in the state.

The Governor made the announcement during the sale and distribution of fertilisers to farmers across the state’s 11 local government areas.

Speaking at the event, the Governor said, “Recall that one of the promises we made during electioneering is to develop the agriculture sector which is the main source of livelihood of our populace.”

He added that the desire to develop the sector remained the policy thrust of his administration with a view to supporting 70 per cent of Gombe people involved in farming activities.

The governor added that in line with his administration’s commitment to developing the agriculture sector, it provided 20,000 metric tonnes of fertilisers for the 2019 farming season.

Inuwa stated that the state had taken delivery of 120 trucks of fertilisers to be delivered to all the 11 local government areas.

He said the subsidised product would improve productivity and generate income to the state government and its people.

The governor also said 10,000 bags of 2kg and 950 bags of 10kg improved maize seeds had been provided for this year’s farming season.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the state’s Ministry of Agriculture promised equitable sales and distribution of the fertilisers to farmers.
