Jigawa HIV Prevalence Drops To 0.3%, Least In Nigeria -Badaru

Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has stated that tthe State has the least HIV prevalence cases in the country, saying that the scourge dropped to 0.3 per cent following their policy on testing as a prerequisite for marriage backed by law.
This development was extracted in the governor’s inaugural speech at Aminu Kano Triangle in Dutse, the capital of the state, stressing g that almost all health indices from stunting to infant mortality have dipped within their first term.
The governor disclosed that, they also achieved a 92 per cent 3immunization coverage in 2019 from seven per cent three years back, describing it as the highest in the country, adding that the state has never achieved a double digit immunization coverage since its creation till now.
He noted that measles vaccines coverage has more than doubled as it stood at 73.9 per cent from 16.3 per cent in 2015 to over 62 per cent in 2018, stating that Vitamin A coverage stood at 73.9 per cent from 16.3 per cent in 2015 while infant mortality now stood at 83 for every 1,000 births from 163 at the last assessment in 2011.
Governor Badaru said that they have consistently spent close to 15 per cent of their budget in the health sector, stating that more importantly they achieved a budget performance averaging 94 per cent from 2015 to date.
According to him, this budgetary discipline and consistent focus has resulted in the provision of 83 new primary healthcare centers, four new general hospitals, two new specialist hospitals, in progress and the renovation as well as or upgrade of facilities in all the existing primary healthcare centers and general hospitals.
He said that they have also increased the capitalization of the state’s medical supply organization from N272 million to N334 million enabling an increase in their turn over to N1.1 billion.
Governor Badaru mentioned that on the polio front, the state has been a polio-incident -free since the advent of his administration, saying that they have conducted over 30 polio rounds in the last four years reaching over 1.7 million children in every exercise.
“We have received several awards and prizes and documented accolades from the World Bank, DFID, Action Against Hunger, the Federal Ministry of Health and other development partners,” he quipped.
