BREAKING: Bayelsa Guber Aspirants, Romeo Bekeyei Hits APC Chieftains, Others
-Says Nembe is no playground for Electoral Violence
By Tony Okechukwu
As momentum gradually gathers towards the November 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa State, one of the most outstanding gubernatorial gladiators in the race for the occupancy of the Creek Heaven Bayelsa Government House, Hon. Romeo Bekeyei, has come hard on the Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its Bayelsa State Chapter in particular.
Coming at the end of an unscheduled visit he paid to the Basambiri and other communities of Nembe LGA over the Ramadan holidays, Bekeyei, a youthful businessman, politician cum security expert, while chatting with journalists said; Bayelsa State is a predominately PDP stronghold, and during the last General Elections, certain APC Chieftains and their cohorts in Brass LGA in a bid to gain control of the area decided to initiate and deploy the youths into acts of political thuggery and violence. But the PDP were able to tame them, hence, the resounding victory at the end of the voting exercise.
He added “All the APC did in the community was a parade of a detachment of armed military men that they used in rigging the elections in Wards 2 and 3 where INEC officials were forced to declare results in their favour. A development that has been challenged by the PDP at the Elections Petitions Tribunal”
“We thank God that the Federal High Court in Yenagoa has already done the right thing by deciding Tuesday May 2, that INEC should conduct a re-run election in the entire 21 polling units of Brass 1 Constituency where election was earlier declared inconclusive instead of its earlier selective plan of two or three wards.
“By this singular judgement, hitherto registered voters, almost 7000 of them that would have been disenfranchised, including the PDP Candidate, Hon. Priye Brodricks (a female ) have had their rights restored.
Commenting further, Bekeyei said: "It is baffling how the hierarchy of the APC wants to turn a peaceful community into a war theatre and blood bath.
“What fires your passion in destroying and killing your people? The very people you are aspiring to rule. it is wicked. It is satanic because any person who truly has the Bayelsans-Ijaw Blood running in his/her veins would never dream of hurting the next Ijaw man”
And sounding a note of warning he stated “Ijaws are not cowards. We are a peace-loving people; very determined, focussed and hard working. And anyone who takes pleasure in destroying our people for whatever selfish reason should always have it at the back of his or her mind that those that played a role in truncating the aspirations of the late Ijaw hero, Major Isaac Adaka Boro, did not end well. Check your records and history, their personal lifes thereafter were miserable, sad and full of torments. So anyone standing in the way of Bayelsans and Ijaw people will one day be crushed by an unseen force”
Meanwhile sources in Bayelsa say several people who fled their traditional homes since the eve of the February General Elections when they were harassed, intimidated, brutalized and haunted by gun and weapons-wielding political thugs led by certain APC Chieftains are yet to return to the safety and convenience of their homes.
Some of those who fled alongside their teeming supporters and party faithful are: Chief Benwari Kuroekigha (a former Commissioner); Hon. Princes Ingo Iwowari Gold (a serving member of Bayelsa State House Assembly & Assembly Candidate of PDP) - he was not allowed to go home to vote during the last general elections; Dr. Ben Oruigbani (State Assembly Candidate of PDP) - never permitted to go home with his supporters to vote in all the elections; Hon. Mention Talbort (Commissioner for Water Resources in Bayelsa State) - driven out of home and did not vote; Mr. Walter (State Auditor of PDP) - sent on exile by the militant youths and leaders of APC in Nembe LGA and Mr. Adire (a PDP stalwart in Nembe who was pursued out of the LGA against his will and contrary to the supreme law of the land) amongst several others.
