Newly Appointed Local Government Chairmen Must Base in Respective Local Governments-Masari

By Innocent Imoh

Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has directed the newly-appointed 34 Transition Committee Chairmen not to operate from outside the headquarters of their Local Government Areas.

Masari was speaking shortly after swearing in the 34 chairmen at the Council Chambers of Government House, Katsina.

The Governor beckoned on them to note that he only travels to Abuja for official engagements, while he hardly travels abroad but prefers to stay with his people in Katsina.

Masari had earlier informed the gathering that the intention was to have an election, but the opposition dragged the APC administration to court.

He explained that although they have won the case, the opposition proceeded to Appeal Court in Kaduna.

He observed that the court case was meant to prevent the state APC from having a structure at the Local Government level.

The Governor said although he promised not to break the law, but under the circumstances, had to bend the law for the emergence of the Transition Committee Chairmen.

He revealed that majority of those appointed are not known to him but hoped that they would discharge their duties to the best of their abilities.

He noted that the screening by the State House of Assembly was meant to give them a semblance of a degree of legitimacy.

Katsina Media and Publicity reports that Masari announced that they would be given a list of councillors to assist them in the due discharge of assigned responsibilities.

He reminded them that their performance will determine what the people would want them to become in future.

The Governor revealed that they are taking over an almost bankrupt Local Government System, adding that they needed to be prudent and accountable in the management of resources.

He  warned that no transition committee chairman should try to parade himself beyond his level, stressing that no one should assume duty with the thinking that so, so and so group do not support his emergence as chairman, as it will not take a second to remove any one of them found wanting in the discharge of their duties.

He also advised them to work in harmony with the APC leaders at the Local Government level; as well as work closely with the Civil Service Structure in the Local Governments.

The Governor assured that the state government would support them with funds for the success of the ddministration in the state.

@katgovmedia reports that the swearing-in ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu,  the speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar Kusada and the Secretary to the Government of the State, Dr Mustapha Inuwa as well as the Katsina-based business mogul, Alhaji Dahiru Bara'u Mangal.

Others that attended the ceremony include members of the State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, politicians, businessmen among others.
