N90b Scandal: Unfortunate, Dent on the Corruption War - Youth Group Mocks Federal Govt
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
youths have called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and
other relevant security agencies to probe the Federal Inland Revenue Service
(FIRS) over the N90 billion scandal.
The call followed the allegation by
Timi Frank, a former Deputy Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress
(APC), who alleged that the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo started having
issues when the presidency discovered that he mismanaged N90 billion allegedly
made available by the FIRS for 2019 election campaign purposes.
Even though the FIRS had denied making
N90 billion available to the Vice President for election campaigns, the youths
said there is more to the allegation.
The youths, under the aegis of PDP
South South Youth Vanguard said that the Inland Revenue must tell the nation
what really transpired and stop denying the allegation.
The youths, in a statement by its
National Chairman, James Efe Akpofure said that the issue must not be swept
under the carpet and that the anti-graft agencies must swing into action at
once to unravel the whole truth behind the scandal.
The youths said: "It is
unfortunate that this is happening in a country where the government in power,
which prides itself of fighting corruption, is accused of corruption.
"It is not enough for FIRS to
deny this allegation. The anti-graft agencies should get to the root of this
case and unravel what really transpired.
"Proper investigation devoid of
bias should be conducted by the EFCC and other agencies. This government told
the world that it will fight corruption, this is the time for it to demonstrate
it and let Nigerians know that it is serious in its fight against corruption.
"This issue should not be swept
under the carpet of denial; the world wants to know the truth."
