As part of ongoing efforts to reposition the educational sector, the Government of Akwa Ibom State has identified and earmarked over 1,200 illegal schools; across all tiers of the educational sector in the state, for immediate closure.

This exercise is to curtail the proliferation of schools that do not meet the minimum requirements for set up and operations in the state.

A list of approved nursery, primary, secondary, and tertiary schools in Akwa Ibom State are available on www.akwaibomstate.gov.ng and notice boards of the Ministries of Information and Education as well as those of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Local Government Headquarters.

By this notice, parents and guardians of students in schools not listed among approved schools in the state as well as the general public are advised to take note and immediately relocate their wards to an approved school.

In a related development, the Akwa Ibom State Government will be hosting its First Education Summit and Exhibition on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th of September 2019. The theme of the event is Human Capacity Building for Sustainable Transformation of Persons and Society.

The cardinal objective of this two-day event is to provide a platform for stakeholders in the Educational sector and relevant private sector players to brainstorm and fashion ways of moving our educational system closer to that elusive ideal of giving every Akwa Ibom child an equal opportunity to succeed while networking, share ideas and collaborating on how to address localized issues and concerns.
