CD, CEI hail BYSIEC, Dickson over Bayelsa LG Elections, urges other States to emulate

The Campaign for Democracy (CD) and the Coalition for Electoral Integrity (CEI) have hailed the Bayelsa State Independent National Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) for the professionalism exhibited during the conduct of last Saturday's local government elections in the State.
In a joint statement issued in Lagos and signed by the CD Deputy President, Deacon Obatughase and CEI Secretary, Umar Farooq, the groups said the successful conduct of the local government election, is a step forward, in Nigeria's quest towards entrenching democracy and promotion of grassroots governance. It lauded the courage of the Bayelsa State Governor, Hon Henry Seriake Dickson, for supporting the demand of Bayelsa people, for democratically elected leadership, at the grassroots level.
While congratulating Governor Dickson and the people of Bayelsa State, the groups urged that the elected local government chairmen and councilors, should work tirelessly, towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people of the grassroots, who came out to vote, during the elections.
“We wish to commend the enormous contributions of honest and sincere staff of the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission, who ensured every vote counted. Particularly, we appreciate the support of the Bayelsa State government towards the success of the process."
"We hereby admonish other state governments, to without further delay, ensure that elections are immediately conducted into their various local governments, as this remains the most viable means of promoting grassroots governance, and speedy delivery of dividends of democracy, to our people."
