Orbih @62: Takeaways and Lessons Learnt

Image
By Elempe Dele On Friday morning, I sent a small note to Chief Dan Osi Orbih, one of my mentors, wishing him a happy birthday anniversary. The social media was awash with birthday messages, as usual. I couldn't keep tab with hundred of messages that came thumbling in that day.  That Friday was packed full for me. After midday was the reception for the elected and appointed people from the South South by the South South Community living in Abuja. I was billed to be there as a member of the association. After the reception, which was adjudged to be one of its kinds by the guest speaker, Professor Osunbor, I left for the house of Chief, as I normally simply call him.  The place was glittering with digniteries. The Acting National Chairman, PDP, Amb. Umar Illiya Damagun, in spite of the fact that his son got married the same Friday, he was able to squeeze out time to come and felicitate with Chief. In his company was Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, the Vice National Chairman, PDP, as well as oth

LIES CAN'T LAST FOREVER: Tinubu's litany of unforced errors

Image
By Oladimeji Fabiyi   A famous American political philosopher and former President,  Abraham Lincoln, once said that "you can fool all people some of the time and some people all the time. But you can never fool all people all the time." This evergreen statement of fact is apt as a pointer to the current wave of conflictual situation in Nigeria, where the integrity and academic credibility of the President of the largest Black Democracy is in grave doubt globally. The litany of unforced errors and avoidable lies about the persona and educational credentials of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, PBAT, leaves a sour taste in the mouths of patriotic Nigerians. Infact, parading a leader with questionable biodata and identity  deficit is worse than eating a rotten egg. This situation has turned our country into a butt of jokes, far worse than the many gaffes of incomprehensive Balabu doled out by the  APC  Presidential during his electioneering campaign.  Infact,  it is still mysterio

Why Tinubu must sack his US lawyer -Festus Adedayo

Image
(Published by the Sunday Tribune, September 24, 2023) When Chief Obafemi Awolowo died in 1987, amid a deluge of musical tributes in his honour, a line among those offerings stood out, evergreen. Sang by Fuji music lord, Kollington Ayinla, while extolling Awolowo’s panegyrics, he sang: “ookan ile l’osa gbe, Baba Yinka//eyin t’o funfun kii gbe koro enu.” This line profoundly articulated the open life of Awolowo, as well as his trackable history and pedigree. As short as the lines were, they drilled deep into the most granular of Yoruba’s concept of openness and transparency. Literally translated, it means that shrines that a people are proud of are erected in open family compounds and, it is a misnomer to cover a set of sparklingly white teeth with flabby duvet of lips. Shrines in Africa were held, partially or wholly, as reserved places for magico–religious or even ceremonial functions. Their traditional worshippers or priests consider them sacred and as groves where ancestors lived.

- Building Independent Young African Entrepreneurs – the words of a Kin Observer by Mazi Uchenna Nwafor  Ekene Omenma, Omekwa Ozo; this is an Igbo adage, when translated means “When you appreciate a man’s good deed, he does more”. This saying however is a  well known life doctrine and it depicts the story of one of Nigeria’s outstanding Entrepreneur and Philanthropist, whose works for humanity have been speaking on his behalf beyond the shores of Africa. Every Human being is created with the responsibility to serve God and serve humanity, whereas, handing down of wealth is a responsibility of trust from God to man to be used for the benefit of all. Ekene Omenma, Omekwa Ozo; this is an Igbo saying which when translated semantically means “When you appreciate a man’s good deed, he does more”. This is the story of one of Nigeria’s Outstanding Lawyer and Entrepreneur, whose works to humanity have been speaking on his behalf, even when he has decided not to make it a media affair. Being Human is a responsibility to serve God and humanity, whereas, handing down of wealth is a responsibility of trust from God to man to be used for the benefit of humanity.  Allen Onyema understood the above, which is why he have chosen the path he is trading, touching lives on his journey of life.   I believe, this generation surely appreciates God Almighty for the parents of Allen, Late Chief Michael Onyema and Lolo Helen Onyema for the breed of orientation they accorded him. A man’s prosperity and peace of mind depend largely on his family, specifically the wife of his youth, appreciation goes to his wife, Lolo Alice Ojochida Onyema for the support and
