Education And Sports Are Tools For Youth Empowerment – Atiku

 The former vice president of Nigeria (1999-2007) His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, GCON, has advocated more investment in education and sports development in the country.

He made this disclosure today when the promoters of Beautiful Tours Football Club of Abuja paid him a courtesy call in his Abuja residence.

The former vice president who also holds the traditional title of Wazirin Adamawa said that the importance of sports in youth empowerment cannot be overemphasized.

Apart from health benefits and job creation, Atiku observes that sporting activities are a unifying factor and an activity that will reduce youth restiveness in the land.

He further disclosed that one of his grandsons is playing in the professional junior league in the UK. Atiku decried the poor state of sports facilities in the country and advised the government at all levels to invest in education and sports development. And while thanking his guests for the visit, he encouraged them to continue their investment in sports, noting that it is part of corporate social responsibility and giving back to society.

The director of the club Mrs Agape Kramer thanked His Excellency for the opportunity to meet with him. She stated that they have a platform for talent discovery with their grassroots football initiatives. She expressed their willingness to work with the person of Atiku Abubakar whom she described as liberal-minded and positive.

Speaking in the same vein, the team captain Emmanuel Okoro who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said that investment in sports will engender peace and harmony in the country.

He decried the poor state of Nigerian sports stating that the development of Nigerian sports would require the inputs of a youth-loving and broad-minded personality like Atiku as president and prayed for Atiku to recover his electoral mandate stolen by the APC.
