#EkitiNewsToday: Amotekun Commandant urges cattle owners to comply with Gov Fayemi's Registration directive

As part of a continuous effort to engender peace and create an atmosphere that supports sustainable development in Ekiti, the state government has commenced a registration process for cattle rearers in across the state.

The Corp commander of amotekun Ekiti State, General Joe komolafe rtd harped on the security and Economic planning benefits of what he described as an epoch move.

"If anyone commits a crime, we will check our records, if your name is not in the database, we will ask you, how did you get in, who's your leader and so on as so forth.

There is an anti grazing law in the state that specifies that if you enter a place, you must register with the local government within a specified number of days, if you don't do that, you can prosecuted, and we can say you have sinister motive."

The Special Adviser to Governor kayode Fayemi on Security Rtd Brig Gen Ebenezer Ogundana made this known during an edition of the periodical peace meeting with farmers in Ekiti, the cattle rearers, security outfits and the peace committee set up by the government.

While speaking with journalists after the meeting, brig gen  Ogundana assured that the government would not relent in  effort to see that Ekiti remains peaceful and all stakeholders can go about their productive legal businesses without fear.

According to him the enumeration process, taking a stock of the farmers and the herders is mutually beneficial for all parties involved and the state at large.

"We actually want sanity in our forests, Let's know who and who is operating within the forests, if anything happens we will know who to contact, and these groups, as they are registering, we already identified their leaders, that will be coordinating these communities. The basic point is that we want to identify who they are, so we can make provisions for them, provide security for them, and if there's any problem in any of those places, we can reach them in real time"

He also revealed that the peace discussions has so far yielded positive results

"We have seen good results, we can see farmers and herders on their own stakeholders meeting at their level there, having their own vigilante groups to protect themselves."

Corroborating this stance, ministry of agriculture and food security commissioner, noted that taking a stock is another form of security measures, prevents further clashes and boost Economic Development.

"registration is about bio-data, know your next door neighbor, and with that you can monitor what is going on around you. This will bring about low level of crime. If we know our neighbors that we do the same business together, we can partner and we can also know who is intruding, where are you coming from and for what purpose?  So there will be controlled movement."

The Ekiti state chairman of all farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), adebola alagbada urged the government and traditional to take the bull by horn in bringing about relative peace by ensuring  that no strangers comes on Ekiti land .
