Drug Abuse Killing Our Youths, Says Gov. Diri

   ....UNODC, NDLEA Commend Bayelsa Effort Against Scourge Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has bemoaned the effect of drug use and abuse on Nigerian youths, saying it was destroying their future. Speaking at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall of the Government House, Yenagoa, during a Stakeholders Mega Sensitisation Campaign on Drug Abuse and Prevention, Governor Diri said the commitment of his administration to eradication of the scourge was premised on its adverse effect on the society. A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, on Wednesday, quoted the governor as expressing the readiness of his administration to make the state free of drug abuse.  Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has explained why his administration was focusing on development of skills acquisition through establishment of colleges of science and technical education in every local government area of the state. Senator Diri said there was a real need to change the narrative on unemployment in the state in the light of an increasingly digitalised global economy. The governor stated this at the Local Content Tower in Yenagoa on Tuesday during the grand finale of the Nigerian Content Science and Technology Innovation Challenge (STIC).  Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has advised Youths not to be involved in illicit Drug acts capable of jeopardizing their future.  Dr. Banigo gave this advice in a statement from the Government house in Port Harcourt on Sunday 27th June 2021, in commemoration of the 2021, International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Diri Celebrates Dad As Anglican Church Honours Octogenarian

 Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has commended his father, Pa Abraham Diri, for the sacrifices he made for his children.  Speaking at Saint Peter's Anglican Church, Sampou in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area on Sunday during a service in honour of his 85-year-old father, Governor Diri described him as a compassionate man who never joked with his fatherly duties. He said his dad ensured he was at peace with those around him at all times.  A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, quoted the governor as saying his father's care for his children impacted on all of them positively.  While thanking the octogenarian, Diri said his children would always remain grateful to him for his sacrifices. Diri Seeks Relocation Of FG College From Alma Mater Site

 Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has urged the Federal Government to build a permanent site for the Federal Government College, Odi in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state and relinquish the current complex to its former occupants, Government Secondary School. Governor Diri made the request on Saturday at a reception held in honour by his former classmates of the 1981 Set at Government Secondary School, Odi. The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, said he had nostalgic feelings returning to his alma mater and decried the absence of the artefacts that would have reminded them of their sojourn in the school due to the relocation to a new place.
