NATIONAL PARA SPORTS FESTIVAL: DG Prosperity Cup Congratulates Team Bayelsa, Gov. Douye Diri

  The Director General of the Prosperity Cup, (Bayelsa Governor's Cup), Mr Ono K. Akpe, has congratulated Team Bayelsa for emerging champions at the just concluded first edition of the National Para Sports Festival, in Abuja.

Team Bayelsa took first position after amassing 33 gold, 30 silver and 32 bronze medals, - 95 medals overall, followed by Oyo State with 60 medals, while Kano State came third with 42 medals.

Mr Ono Akpe in a statement released in Yenagoa on Monday, said the Team has made the state proud, and proved once again that sporting talents abound in Bayelsa, as in a matter of time, athletes from the state will be conquering the world.

The Director General also heaped praises on the Miracle Governor, Senator Douye Diri, and his  Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for their commitment to sports development, which has witnessed a rapid positive growth, since they assumed office in 2020.

Also commended were the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Olympic Champion Hon. Daniel Igali , the management and staff of the State Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Sports Council, coaches and handlers of the various teams, for working in unison and assiduously to achieve the fantastic result in Abuja. 

However, Mr Akpe stressed that with the results recorded so far, Bayelsa athletes will soon be the cynosure of all eyes, as their counterparts across the country would begin to work hard to unseat them in subsequent editions, and so, all stakeholders must not let their guards down, hence, the need to work harder.

The former Head,Media and Events, used the statement to remind Bayelsans to get ready for this year's edition of the Prosperity Cup 2022, which according to him, will be mind-blowing as over two hundred (200) teams have so far registered for the tournament.
