Gov Diri Directs Investigation, Autopsy Into Bayelsa Youth's Death

 Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has directed immediate investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of a Bayelsa youth, Goodluck Oviekeme. Governor Diri also directed that an autopsy be conducted on Monday with representatives of the late youth's family, the police and the state government present. The late Goodluck was said to have been arrested by the police special squad "Operation Puff Adder" last Wednesday over an alleged robbery incident in his Biogbolo community. Miffed by his reported death in police custody, the community staged a protest on Saturday that grounded vehicular movement for hours in the state capital, Yenagoa. Bayelsa Governor's CPS Advocates Joint Effort To Sanitise Nigerian Roads

Chief Press Secretary to the  Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, has urged Nigerians to join effort with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to ensure sanity on roads. The governor's spokesperson expressed the optimism that with cooperation from citizens, Nigeria can get to the level of other countries that have achieved reasonable success in road safety. He stated this in his office in Government House, Yenagoa, when he hosted Sector Commander of the Bayelsa State Command, Usman Ibrahim, on Wednesday. Alabrah lauded the corps for their untiring effort to make Nigerian roads safe.   ....Says Men Victims Too Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has inaugurated the state's Gender Response Initiative Team (GRIT) as part of efforts to curb cases of domestic violence against persons in the state. The committee is headed by gender advocate and legal practitioner, Dise Ogbise. While inaugurating the 18-member committee in Government House, Yenagoa, on Tuesday, Senator Diri said with the signing of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPP) earlier this year, Bayelsa had become one of the few states that has domesticated the federal law.   ...Maritime Area Most Dangerous In The World - UNODC Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed worry over the insecurity occasioned by sea piracy, drugs, human trafficking and other criminal activities in the Gulf of Guinea.  Governor Diri stated this on Tuesday at a United Nations-backed workshop on combating piracy and maritme insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea. He spoke during the opening ceremonies of a three-day programme at the Chief Harold Dappa Biriye Conference Centre in Yenagoa. A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, quoted the governor as decrying the level of insecurity in the gulf, noting that the maritime industry was the backbone to the global economy and that no effort should be spared in tackling the menace. Bayelsa Aquaculture Project: Bayelsa Govt, AAGGF team inspects locations

 About thirteen locations have been visited by a team from the Bayelsa State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and that of African Atlantic Gulf of Guinea Fisheries (AAGGF) to select suitable locations across the three senatorial zones for the massive aquaculture projects coming to Bayelsa State. The team led by Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. David Alagoa and Prince Patrick Osobase, of AAGGF, visited different river and sea sides at Swali, Ox-bow lake, in Yenagoa, and river Nun by Sampou, Kaiama and Odi communities. The team also visited Agudama-Ekpetiama, Sagbama town, Akiplai, Ogbia town, Sabatoru, Nembe, Twon Brass and Okpoama beach. The visit to these locations is sequel to the recent tour to Greece by a delegation led by Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State to see and appreciate the various projects to be replicated on Bayelsa soil and water.  . ..Redeems Bus Pledge To State Football Teams An elated Governor Douye Diri has given out N14 million motivation bonus to the state-owned Bayelsa United after its victory over visiting AS Ashanti Golden Boys of Guinea in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday. The match played at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa saw the youthful Bayelsa team winning by four goals to two.
