Gov Diri Awards Scholarship To Another First Class Law Graduate

Miss Amazige, who graduated from the Rivers State University in Port Harcourt, is the second female Law graduate to bag the scholarship after Miss Ebizi Eradiri that had a double First Class at the Niger Delta University and the Nigerian Law School. Senator Diri made the offer on Tuesday while receiving Miss Amazige and her mother, Mrs Joy Amazige, in Government House, Yenagoa. The governor, who assured her of his administration's preparedness to sponsor her education up to doctorate level in any university of her choice within and outside the country, congratulated her for achieving the feat against all odds. Bayelsa Bans Logging, Deforestation Activities

Bayelsa State government has halted logging without permit and other deforestation activities in order to protect the state's forest reserves. Henceforth, all commercial timber dealers are to obtain permit from the Ministry of Environment before embarking on logging activities. Governor Douye Diri, who stated this on Monday during this year's International Day of Forests celebration in Yenagoa, also directed that an executive bill in consultation with the Environment Ministry and related civil society organisations be prepared and forwarded to the House of Assembly.  A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, said the governor also said that the new bill would repeal existing environmental laws that are now obsolete. Daniel Igali, has given kudos to the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, for his administration's tremendous support to Nigerian wrestlers.  Hon. All the nine wrestlers going to Tunis including veterans Odunayo Adekuoroye and  Blessing Oborodudu are African champions and the governor charged them to be worthy ambassadors of Nigeria. Bayelsa To Review Host Community, Oil Firms' GMoU

 To forestall conflicts in oil-bearing communities, the Bayelsa State government has said it would commence a review of the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) between Cluster Boards and Community Trusts with international oil companies (IOCs) in the state.   It said henceforth, such agreements would have to be approved and monitored by the state government.   Governor Douye Diri, who gave the directive through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, said the agreements should also align with policies of the state government in order to foster better relationship between host communities and the oil companies on the one hand and the indigenes of such communities on the other hand.   His words: “The state government is interested in being a party to such agreements to ensure all parties comply with the terms. COVID-19: Gov Diri Advises Bayelsans To Take Vaccine

  Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has called on citizens and residents of the state to take advantage of the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination exercise and get innoculated against the virus. Governor Diri made the call on Wednesday after he received the Oxford Astra-Zeneca vaccine jab inside the Executive Chamber of the Government House, Yenagoa. He advised that while the people trust God for protection, they should also take the necessary steps to get protected against the virus by taking the vaccine.  Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has said the state-owned airport is ready for commercial flight operations.  Governor Diri stated this when he made an unscheduled visit to the facility ahead of a final certification visitation by the country's aviation regulatory authorities on March 30. In a press release, his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, quoted him as saying that the state government had provided the required facilities for the smooth take-off of operations at the airport. Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has lauded the Victims Support Fund (VSF) for the execution of projects in selected schools in the state.  Speaking in his office in Government House, Yenagoa, when he received representatives of the VSF, Governor Diri described the projects as timely and a welcome development, noting that Nigeria needed such initiatives to move the country forward.  A press release by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, quoted the governor as saying that Bayelsa was not as rich as being perceived and would therefore need the support of agencies like the VSF to meet its developmental needs.  The governor commended former President Goodluck Jonathan for setting up the VSF and expressed delight that it has been sustained and is meeting the needs of ordinary Nigerians.  He remarked that with bodies like the VSF bringing succour to people of the country, agitations against inequality and injustice would reduce.
