Governonor Matawalle Urges Social Media Handlers In The State To Avoid Promoting Fake News
His Excellency, the Zamfara State Executive Governor Hon. Dr. Bello Mohammed MON (Matawallen Maradun) has urged social media handlers in the state to avoid promoting fake news saying it is capable of destroying the long existing peace of the country.
The governor made the call today while receiving All Progressive Congress (APC) Social Media Forum under the leadership of Hon.Aminu Mohammed Kaura (Lecturer) who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Government House Council Chamber, Gusau.
Governor Matawalle said there is need for handlers of social media in the state to stop promoting fake news on their news feeds because it causes serious damage to the state and the country.
He said most of the people using social media especially youths, need to use it positively such as the promotiin of peace and unity among the people of the state and the country for the purpose of having a united and more secured nation.
Matawalle further said social media is now one of the major sources of news but that its major problem is that unpatriotic citizens are using it negatively to fabricate lies and promote disunity among people of the state and nation instead of promoting unity and economic prosperity.
He urged them to assist the government at all levels in promoting and Enlightening the public about government policies and programmes instead of disseminating news capable of destroying the state or their individual communities.
The governor further stressed that social media is a tools of promoting religious tolerance, justice, equity and love of one another.
He added that if social media is handled positively according to the laws and ethics provided, it will assist government with positive criticism that will lead to a greater improvement of the nation's economy and improve the security situation of the state.
Earlier in their separate speeches leaders of the APC Social Media Forum in the state, Comrade Aminu Mohammed Kaura (Lecturer) and Comrade Ahmed Mohammed Janbako said their decisions to dump from their former party, the APC and join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is due to the way and manner governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle is handling the security situation of the state where most of the economic activities have since resumed fully and all roads and market places that were closed by the previous administration have since been reopened.
They further said that the present administration in the state has given youths a lot of opportunities to contribute their quoter in the development of the state.
The programme was attended by the two former deputy governors of the state Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad and Hon. Muktar Ahmed Anka.
Others include Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Bello Maru, Chief of Staff Government House, Col Bala Mande rtd, Commissioners, Special advisers, Permanent Secretary Ministry for Local Government and Community Development, Alhaji Abubakar Jaafar Maradun and Principal Private Secretary, Lawal Umar Maradun among others.
