2019 governorship elections in Bayelsa State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that a total of 45 candidates will contest this election in a bid to succeed Governor Seriake Dickson whose second term administration ends on February 13, 2020.


The state capital, Yenagoa is deserted.
Although there are multiple contestants, today’s election will see Senator Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party go head-to-head against the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) David Lyon.

As early as 5am, security operatives including the Nigeria Police, Army, Customs, Road Safety, NSCDC, Prison Officers have all barricaded several points as elections are expected to commence as early as possible.

8:00AM LGA: Kolga Ward: 8 PU: 007 -INEC Officials are on ground and ready, security agents are on ground, party agents are also present, the atmosphere here is peaceful.

7:45AM LG: Brass Ward:
2 PU: RAC, GSS school.
Distribution of materials to various units ongoing

7.40am Reports say sensitive materials for ward 8, 9 & 10 have been hijacked to an unknown location by thugs at Nembe. Sporadic shooting in the area as well.

7.30am' A 'Special Voter on his way to his polling unit in Yenagoa

7.39am Voters trooping to their respective polling units

7.28am Kolga Ward: 4 PU: 007 officials with materials have arrived the PU

6.15am PU: 1 Ward:1 Kolga LGA Every where is calm, police presence is visible, waiting for INEC officials
