LIES CAN'T LAST FOREVER: Tinubu's litany of unforced errors

By Oladimeji Fabiyi   A famous American political philosopher and former President,  Abraham Lincoln, once said that "you can fool all people some of the time and some people all the time. But you can never fool all people all the time." This evergreen statement of fact is apt as a pointer to the current wave of conflictual situation in Nigeria, where the integrity and academic credibility of the President of the largest Black Democracy is in grave doubt globally. The litany of unforced errors and avoidable lies about the persona and educational credentials of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, PBAT, leaves a sour taste in the mouths of patriotic Nigerians. Infact, parading a leader with questionable biodata and identity  deficit is worse than eating a rotten egg. This situation has turned our country into a butt of jokes, far worse than the many gaffes of incomprehensive Balabu doled out by the  APC  Presidential during his electioneering campaign.  Infact,  it is still mysterio

(Published by the Sunday Tribune, September 24, 2023) When Chief Obafemi Awolowo died in 1987, amid a deluge of musical tributes in his honour, a line among those offerings stood out, evergreen. Sang by Fuji music lord, Kollington Ayinla, while extolling Awolowo’s panegyrics, he sang: “ookan ile l’osa gbe, Baba Yinka//eyin t’o funfun kii gbe koro enu.” This line profoundly articulated the open life of Awolowo, as well as his trackable history and pedigree. As short as the lines were, they drilled deep into the most granular of Yoruba’s concept of openness and transparency. Literally translated, it means that shrines that a people are proud of are erected in open family compounds and, it is a misnomer to cover a set of sparklingly white teeth with flabby duvet of lips. Shrines in Africa were held, partially or wholly, as reserved places for magico–religious or even ceremonial functions. Their traditional worshippers or priests consider them sacred and as groves where ancestors lived.
