Hepatitis Seek Proper Medicare - Banigo

Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has urged Hepatitis patients to seek proper medical examination and treatment to stem the spread of Hepatitis.



Dr. Banigo stated this in a message from the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, 28th July, 2021 in commemoration of the 2021 World Hepatitis Day.


 According to the Deputy Governor, “Hepatitis is an inflammatory condition of the Liver caused by a variety of infectious viruses and non-infectious agents leading to a range of Health challenges”.


The Public Health Physician, who said fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting are symptoms of the disease, noted that Hepatitis B and C are the most prevalent which claim over a million lives annually and 3 million infections.


Dr. Banigo who is the Chairman of the State Task Force on Immunization and Primary Healthcare frowned at the situation where people seek help from spiritual homes when they are ill disclosed that the State Chief Executive, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has provided top notch medical facilities to carter for the health needs of the Rivers People and urged them to take advantage of the health facilities.

She warned against superstitious beliefs, stigmatization and discrimination of People with Hepatitis, adding that the current wave of Covid 19 Pandemic calls for synergy, effective mobilization and sensitization of the public by both Private and Government Agents.


It would be recalled that the 28th of July each year is set aside to commemorate World Hepatitis Day. Hepatitis has five main strains which includes A, B, C, D and E.

The Theme for this Year's Celebration is “Hepatitis Can't Delay”.
